On Thursday in Cinema class we watcheda movie about how our generation is becoming an extremely technological generation. I have to say I agree with many of the points that were made in the movie but there were also some things that bothered me as well. I did not like how at the beginning of the movie when they were trying to prove the point of multi-tasking the makers of the documentary went to MIT. I don't think that was an accurate way to portray how an average student multi-tasks. The students at MIT are among the most technologically advanced in the country and are going to school particularily for that reason so I do not believe that using them as a base to prove how students can multi-task is a good idea. I say this because they are supposed to know how to use technology so using them as a sample base is probably not the best idea, if the interviewers went to a more average college with a more diverse student base, take for example C.W. Post, they would get a more accurate view on actual multi-tasking.

One thing I thought was very interesting was the craze thats going on Korea with the video games. I could not believe how into the games kids were and that it is so intense that they have to go to detox camps for ten days. Unfortunately I do not think those camps actually work very well. I think it just makes the kids miss their games that much more. I think maybe if the camps were longer and a little bit more regimented they could actually have a chance of working. Also I think if the parents were a little more strict and monitored their childrens video game habits the kids would not be in as much trouble as they are in now.

The study at Stanford on the impact all this new technology has on brain waves and brain activity is really cool and I'd love to see how it turns out. After the video ended I actually went online and looked up the study itself and that study that proved that Google increased brain activity because I really wanted to know more about it.

The last thing about this video that really caught my eye was the school system in the South Bronx that has now incorporated laptops into their curriculum. I think it is absolutely great that the new principal that had come in was able to turn the students around in such a way that there are now much more coming to school and applying themselves. While I think it was a little wierd that the computers could be monitored so closely, I understand why it needs to be that way but I thought it was a little creepy that the guy could take pictures of the kids but at least he is having fun with his job. I think maybe if more schools could be like that kids would be more interested in coming. Yes, it does provide for more distractions but kids would be distracted regardless, this only changes the way in which they would be distracted.

Overall I believe that like anything else, technology has its good points and its bad points. The only thing we can do is hope that eventually the good points will outweigh the bad points in the end.
