Also, as part of our assignment I viewed some of the other things on Moodle.
The first one I read was about how a guy cured his holiday lonliness by talking to and basically starting a relationship with a woman he met on Facebook. I think while it is a little creepy that this relationship started on Facebook, I also think it is sweet that this guy found happiness and companionship.
In the second article that I read, I thought it started off very funny actually. The way the author was telling us to put away all distractions and named all of them was exactly what I was thinking about when he mentioned distractions at first. I think he is right in many of his assumptions and in many of the things he says. Even at the end, when the author mentions that there really isn't a way to just stop the advance of technology anymore, I think he hits the proverbial nail on the head because we really can't go back to a time where computers, blackberrys, phones etc. were not necessary. It almost seems now-a-days that we need these things in order to function in daily life.
When it comes to the third and final article I read, "Cellphones, Texts, and Lovers," I was first appalled at the sex diaries that the Times had made available for people to write. I don't really like that as an idea despite how entertaining it is. I also agree whole heartedly with the writer that just because we have different ways of courting and hooking up with people now, it doesn't mean we are any less of a generation than the generations before us who used more face to face contact and that kind of thing. I feel that we have adapted to the times and new technologies as best we can and are finding new ways to meet and get to know others. Personally I don't really see anything wrong with that.

On Thursday in Cinema class we watcheda movie about how our generation is becoming an extremely technological generation. I have to say I agree with many of the points that were made in the movie but there were also some things that bothered me as well. I did not like how at the beginning of the movie when they were trying to prove the point of multi-tasking the makers of the documentary went to MIT. I don't think that was an accurate way to portray how an average student multi-tasks. The students at MIT are among the most technologically advanced in the country and are going to school particularily for that reason so I do not believe that using them as a base to prove how students can multi-task is a good idea. I say this because they are supposed to know how to use technology so using them as a sample base is probably not the best idea, if the interviewers went to a more average college with a more diverse student base, take for example C.W. Post, they would get a more accurate view on actual multi-tasking.
One thing I thought was very interesting was the craze thats going on Korea with the video games. I could not believe how into the games kids were and that it is so intense that they have to go to detox camps for ten days. Unfortunately I do not think those camps actually work very well. I think it just makes the kids miss their games that much more. I think maybe if the camps were longer and a little bit more regimented they could actually have a chance of working. Also I think if the parents were a little more strict and monitored their childrens video game habits the kids would not be in as much trouble as they are in now.
The study at Stanford on the impact all this new technology has on brain waves and brain activity is really cool and I'd love to see how it turns out. After the video ended I actually went online and looked up the study itself and that study that proved that Google increased brain activity because I really wanted to know more about it.
The last thing about this video that really caught my eye was the school system in the South Bronx that has now incorporated laptops into their curriculum. I think it is absolutely great that the new principal that had come in was able to turn the students around in such a way that there are now much more coming to school and applying themselves. While I think it was a little wierd that the computers could be monitored so closely, I understand why it needs to be that way but I thought it was a little creepy that the guy could take pictures of the kids but at least he is having fun with his job. I think maybe if more schools could be like that kids would be more interested in coming. Yes, it does provide for more distractions but kids would be distracted regardless, this only changes the way in which they would be distracted.
Overall I believe that like anything else, technology has its good points and its bad points. The only thing we can do is hope that eventually the good points will outweigh the bad points in the end.

Thank goodness!! Today is finally the last day that this project is going. I can officially use my ipod starting tomorrow! This weekend has been so hard for me, especially because this weekend has been so busy. I have not even had time to sit at my computer and write about just how hard it has been! I think now though that I have realized that I'm very dependent on technology and I should probably start to chill out a little and maybe not rely so much on things that are so technological and rely more on people and myself. This has definitely been an awakening for me. Before this I did not believe that I really needed any type of technology at all. I now see just how wrong I am! I really am going to work on fixing this, I just feel that with all I have going on that it is so much easier to just rely on my phone or my ipod or my computer to help me figure out where I need to go or what I need to do. I think with life as it is today that it is just so much more convenient to rely on these thing because everyone else is doing so as well. We really have become very relient on technology these days.

So once again I am really missng my ipod! It has been harder than I expected, a lot harder. I could barely fall asleep last night because I did not have my music to listen too. I did not think I was this dependedend on my ipod. I knew I loved my ipod but I did not realize how hard it was too actually not be able to use it. I can't believe how wierd I feel doing everyday things without having my ipod to help me. My days are jam packed and I dont end until very late and it has been extremely hard to unwind without my ipod. I feel totally off without it and I cannot wait for monday when I can have it back!
So for my Cinema project I decided to give up my ipod for the next few days. So far its been extremely hard. I started yesterday and I first noticed just how hard it was when I went to the gym and had nothing to listen too. I felt so akward just running without listening to my zoning out music. Then when I went driving today and didnt have my ipod to plug into my car I felt that my driving was even different. I hope these next few days go quickly because it has been really hard not being able to listen to my music!

About Me
My name is Jenna Moglia. I attend CW Post University and I am currently a second semester freshman in my Cinema 304 class. My birthday is May 2, 1991. I am a biology major and am thinking of becoming a Biology teacher. I like to play rugby and my team is ranked third in our league. I am a big fan of Twilight and my favorite dessert is chocolate ice cream. I enjoy making people laugh and love to laugh myself. I have a great set of friends and I love to hang out with them. I have two dogs, a yellow lab and a chihuahua and I work as a babysitter and at an organic food store in my hometown. I am deathly afraid of heights and of paper clips. My biggest pet peeve is when something is stuck in my teeth.
